PANTAI KEMASIN,BACHOK

I was born in the district of Bachok in 1952 but managed to arrive at this beautiful beach only in 2012.It is a long story to tell you why I never come to this part of the world of Bachok when I was younger but sufficed to say I was away from my home Pondok Beris,Bachok since I was 13 years old. My recent interest in photography took me all over Bachok.I started to go around the district looking for something to photograph. As I visited a few places, memories of my childhold came to my mind.As the Malay proverb says: Tempat jatuh lagi dikenang, inikan pula tempat bermain. Pantai Kemasin is a hidden gem to me.It could be a great sea side resort for Bachok.Sadly, there is no proper road and sifnage  to this beach. And worse, the local council does even bothered to provide basic amenities for visitors to Pantai Kemasin as shown above. It will be like it is  for the next 50 years unless there is a positive intervention from the state government or the private sector. MORNING SUN LIGHT

Morning sun light is very strong, colourful and beautiful. When the light falls on the buildings,we can see many beautiful images beyond our imagination.

Beach with A Story

Pantai Irama is the most famous beach in Kelantan. It is the best beach resort for my kampung folks like me during my growing up years in 50's and 60s.During those days,we just had only the beach for ourselves. No restaurants and no facilities for us at the beach. For my family, this beach is THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND RESORT  for us,located 5km from my parent's house. When we go for family picnic,my mother did all the cooking herself. We brought our own food and drink and mat to sit on.We kids will be on the beach running around and playing in the sea of waves.I love the waves and I still remember  a big wave hit me and I felt like drowning.Thank God I rose to the surface again. Every month,I go back  to visit my mother at Pondok Beris,Bachok.Whenever I am free ,I will going around taking photos of a few beaches in Bachok and padi fields in the village.Taking these photos remind me of my childhood days.To promote the beauty of Bachok,I set up a fan page c...

POETRY OF CURVES

SOME CURVES LOOK  LIKE POETRY OF LINES A straight line is very simple.Knowing any two points on any part of the line,we know where it comes from and leading to.It is very safe to predict where the line will go but not the cuve. The curve is very dangerous. You only know a part of it - we don't know where it begins and  where it leads to.That is the nature of curve. Looking at the photos above and below, curves are more interesting and seductive than straight lines.Curves are every where in nature and man-made environments especially in the cities. We just need to look around the corner-the pun is intended. My first encounter with a French curve was when I was in form4,circa 1969.I bought one set to assist me to draw curves in my mathematics exercises. As they say,the rest of my learning is history. My learning curve continues into the world of photography.Below is one great collection curves used in Masjid Tuanku Sultan Mizan in Putrajaya. Lilies flow...

SHOOTING GREEN

COLOURFUL MARKET PLACES

As an avid amateur photographer, I love the market especially Pasar Tani.It is the place where I have a lot of opportunities to take great photos, especially street photography. This program by Ministry of Agriculture to get the farmers to the market place cutting out the middle men and making agriculture as a business venture is a great success story. It is a win-win situation where farmers get better price and consumers get better deals. Just look at the people and their colourful dreses coming to buy their weekly needs and the mult-icolour products on displays. The place is happening and alive. Not just buying daily needs but at times we aalso need to eat special delicacies and cakes on weekends. For me,they are nasi ambeng and satay and laksa and apam balik. Weekly outing to the market is also a social events whenre family members and friends go out to shop and eat together. It is fun...

BEING CREATIVE 101

{Colours-Post Production} How do you take creative photo? It depends on what you understood by Creative Photography. According to Flickr- Creative: creative use of line, form and colour, expressing the photographer’s ideas and/or feelings in a non-traditional style.  {composition and lighting} Some people understood creative photograph as photos with altered reality. In simple language ,the photo was altered during the process of taking it or during post processing. {colours changed via plastic coating} {reflection on glass} The above four photos were taken by me.Under each photo I mentioned my personal  rational why I considered them as creative photos.

Lifestyle:Where we eat..

Our eating lifestyle have changed a lot.Mamak business cash registers are working 24/7 and raking billions ringgit annually.Restaurants are every where -in big cities, small towns,by seasides, in shopping malls etc. Most people eat on the go.The above is a very special one- a restaurant inside a supermarket at Nu Sentral.Someting new to me.I have seen a small restaurant even inside a butcher's shop! That is cool.. Below is a normal kopitiam open 24/7 at KLIA.  Our work life affect how we live and eat.Nowadays,we have less time to cook. Most people eat outside. They have the money but not the time to cook.On weekends ,they have sport and social activities-again they eat outside.Nowadays, new houses have smaller kitchen. Food is forever good business in Malaysia.Eating is our national pastime! In other words,we eat all the time.Just enter a mamak shop like the one shown below. That is why our obesity rate is almost 50%. Food trucks have in business for more t...

On landscape shadows

A  shadow  is a dark area where  light  from a light source is blocked by an  opaque  object. It occupies all of the three-dimensional volume behind an object with light in front of it. The  cross section  of a shadow is a two- dimensional   silhouette , or a reverse  projection  of the object blocking the light.-Wikipedia When I started taking landscape photos,I avoid dark areas like shadows.I wanted my photos to be clear and sunny-just like standard postcard photos.Over the years, learning from the work of other photographers,I began to see the beauty of shadows in the photos.I see beautiful patterns and nice distortions of the real objects. Shadows are virtual. They change with time. You can see them but you can't touch them. They come and they go.

SHOOTING STREET

We arrived at about 11:30am and went straight to Gulatis along Jalan Tuanku abdul Rahman a.k.a Jalan TAR to buy 4m of cloth for my new Baju Melayu and pants.By 12noon,we completed our day assignment and went out looking for lunch at Zam Zam Restaurant. To our disappointment, the restaurant had stopped selling Kacang Pool.Anyway,we ordered murtabak and enyoyed the street view. The top photo is a candid shot of people walking along roadside pavement. The old Kaki Lima along  the shop fronts are congested with goods on promotions/sales. Below is the reflection of the Jalan TAR on a shop glass display. To see this ,I had to walk very close by the shop's glass walls. After our lunch,my wife decided to do some window shopping and I took the opportunity to do Street Photography. It was hot,so I decided to loiter along the Kaki Lima and close to SOGO where I can take shade under the trees. Without the people, the streets bored me to death.I need people to give 'l...
