Ampang Park Revisited

Ampang Park was the shopping complex when I srated working in KL way back in 1976.It was opened in 1973.When I came back to work in KL in 1980,it was my shopping and entertainment centre then.We lived in Jalan U Thant-in one of the government quarters. Our family optician and hair dresser are still there. For us there is nothing much there as we now live in Bangi and our city is Putrajaya.

Lately,I heard that RapidKL may acquire the land where Ampang Park is located for their infrrastructure requirement,See the sign above. This place has memories where I played computer games etc with my sons in the 80s.Personally,this place needs a real upgrade,so be it.

During my walkabout, I noticed a few tenants had left and some restaurants are almost empty but many are still doing roaring business. What I saw was the older costomers and the middle income group of people come and shop here. The middle and upper classes have better shopping complexes to go like KLCC,Pavilion etc.

Most of the people will remember the famous Cozy Corner Restaurant.Every time,I have my salary every month,I will come here for dinner. In the 80s,we have little choice to eat.My other favourite place was The Ship at Jalan Bukit Bintang.
