I only know of portrait photos when I became the CEO of a listed company. The corporate department got a professional photographer to shoot me in my room and the company boardroom. It is for our company annual report.Previously,I only take passport size photos for my IC/Passport or some ID photos to be attached with any applications. Before joining the BOD, I only have family and wedding photos.By the way,I was brought up in my kampung and no portrait photos of my parents or grand parents ever seen hanging on any walls in our house.
My interest in portrait photography began when I borrowed a 50mm prime lens and I started shooting my first grandson. He is a cute and naughty little fellow two years ago.He became the fist "victim" of my trial and errors and along the way,I made many errors. When my family members already got fed up with me snapping at their faces,my friends become the second wave of "victims".From my short experience in exploring portrait photography,I prefer to shoot landscape-it is five times easier. When I found shooting portrait is very difficult, I joined my friends walking the streets and do Street Photography. It is not much easier but I don't have to shoot into their faces and it is more of capturing people actions and the environment where they are.Something like that..
So far I have not succeeded to sell any Portrait Photo of anyone because I have not arrived at the professional grade yet. With time,I do hope my portrait photography will improve. It is not my intention to be a professional portrait photographer but I would be happier if my family members and friends like their photos taken by me as shown above and below.
There are a lot that I have to learn to become a better Portrait Photographer but one thing that I learnt -my better photos came from the photos of my family and friends -the people that I know personally. Another factor is I shoot very close.
Last but not least, here is the portrait of the most beautiful woman in the world for me.She is my dearest mother..
