WALKING THE STREETS

Let's go for a walk..

The title reminds me of the song Walking the Street of London. Since I could not afford to go there once a year,I just walk around the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Bangi and Kota Bharu. For my record,I was in London in the first week of May 2012. Sadly at that time,I have yet to discover the genre of street photography.I was then busy taking photos of the buildings and gardens around London.

The photo shown above was taken next to BV11-Bangsar Shopping Centre while I was killing time waiting for my wife doing her shopping.Over the last two years,I learnt a little bit about street photography by joining photo walks organised by other groups.Later, I set up my own group called Putrajaya Photowalk.I managed to do a few photo walks and then the interest fades away since the beginning of this year 2015.Now,we just share photos online.

Photography is very personal. Sometimes,I love to join a group but when I shoot,I prefer to be alone. At times,I just go alone and shoot. Going to photo walk alone is a calling as well as a mind and body therapy for me.

There are many ways to do Street Photography but I choose two methods that work for me.My first is to locate a good location and wait for something to happen there to shoot. Later,I move to another location.Second,I just walk the streets with the crowd and shoot along the way.  It is just like fishing...sometimes,I take home big fish and many a time I take home nothing!

Below is a photo was taken while I was having coffee on Portobello Street,London in May,2012.

It was fun watching every lady who passed by and everyone of them never fail to look at the LV bags and shoes on display. This one stopped and had a closer look.

World Photography Week is celebrated globally with World Photography Day on August 19, 2024, as the centerpiece. This day honors the art, history, and evolution of photography, marking the anniversary of the daguerreotype process, the first photographic technique unveiled by Louis Daguerre in 1839. World Photography Week often features various events, exhibitions, and social media activities, all aimed at celebrating and promoting photography. The 2024 theme for World Photography Day is "An Entire Day," encouraging photographers to capture the myriad of activities and moments that occur around the world in a single day. Throughout the week, photography enthusiasts are invited to share their work on social media using the hashtag #WPD24 to have their photos potentially featured on platforms like those of the Royal Photographic Society. This celebration provides an opportunity for photographers of all levels to showcase their work, learn from others, and appreciate the rich ...
