THANK YOU!!!

Dear Readers, May I thank you very much for visiting and reading my blog on my adventure in the world of photography.I started this blog  just to archive my selected photos for future reference and at the same time to share my views and experience as I explore the nooks and corners of photography. When and where did I begin to enjoy the fun of taking photos and appreciate the beauty of photography? My memory is not that good but most probably around the year 2010 when I began shooting the beauty of Pantain Irama and the beautiful places in Putrajaya where I cycle with my friends during weekends. As a beginner,I only shoot on Auto Mode most of the time.I seldom do on Manual Mode.My expectation was very low,so I was happy with what I got most of the time.As time went by and I began to know a few good and serious photographers,I started to learn the technical aspects of using the camera and the techniques of photography. As they say,the rest is history.. I set up this blog in...

COMPOSITION 1.0

I knew the word 'composition' when I joined SDAR in 1965.Composition, then was to write a story.Since my primarry school was in Malay medium,I have to enter a Remove Class to get me at par with those who studied in English medium primary school. It was hard work but most of us got by and became as good or better than those who were from English medium school. I learnt the hard way- we need to know English words and grammar to make us proficient to write sentences, paragraphs and finally the story.Only then,we can have good composition. In short,to write a good composition,I need to have a good command of my English language. Similarly with photos that tell good stories.Photo must be well composed to tell your story. In the above photo, the foreground, the subject and the background are my words  and my paragraphs. The light and the angle are my command of the language to articulate my story. Composing a shot is just like composing a story to write. However,it is more d...

WALKING THE STREETS

Let's go for a walk.. The title reminds me of the song Walking the Street of London. Since I could not afford to go there once a year,I just walk around the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Bangi and Kota Bharu. For my record,I was in London in the first week of May 2012. Sadly at that time,I have yet to discover the genre of street photography.I was then busy taking photos of the buildings and gardens around London. The photo shown above was taken next to BV11-Bangsar Shopping Centre while I was killing time waiting for my wife doing her shopping.Over the last two years,I learnt a little bit about street photography by joining photo walks organised by other groups.Later, I set up my own group called Putrajaya Photowalk.I managed to do a few photo walks and then the interest fades away since the beginning of this year 2015.Now,we just share photos online. Photography is very personal. Sometimes,I love to join a group but when I shoot,I prefer to be alone. At times,I ...

Sunrise at Bachok

A beautiful place to earn a living.. No traffic jam to slow you down on your way to work. And a great view even without the corner office of a CEO.Here is a photos of three fishy entreprenuers-every day going to the sea for their catch of the day.

Flags At R&R

I remember the year when Malaysians were very eager to fly the national flag during August to celebrate our Merdeka. They even bought the flags. This year it seems there is no initiative from government bodies to promote the public to fly our national flags and the public seems do not care either.Last year we have a few sad tradegies and this year we are  witnessing political and economic turmoils. Some call it as comedy of errors.I am weak and old to do something about it but I give counsel to younger people to do something for our beloved country and I pray to Allah to save us  from tradegies of our own errors. In time like this,we badly need a good captain to steer our ship in stormy weather and rough seas we are now passing through.May Allah save my country,Malaysia.

PHOTO JOURNALISM?

Being an engineer,I am more adept to see the city as clusters of building blocks along the roads.Personally,I love the architecture and the cityscape. When I am on the street,I love to capture life in photo shots of street photography. Yesterday,I attended a group photowalk at Bukit Bintang,Kuala Lumpur. The group leader,Mr John Ishii,a freelance photo journalist told the group to go out and take a few photos(about 5 or 6 photos) that tell the impacts of urban renewal that affect the daily lives of the people. This is an exercise for us novices in visual storytelling and may be my first lesson on the street on how to be a photo journalist-my dream job.He advised us to construct the story in our minds first and go out and look for the photos that tell our story. Not only that,we were told to engage with the people and ask them about their views on urban renewal. That is a tall order for me because all these years,I only took photos of landscapes, cycling trips, family photo events and ...

PHOTOS OF BUILDING

There are many beautiful buildings in Putrajaya and yet I only take photos of Masjid Putra and Masjid Sultan Mizan in greater details.Today,as I cycled around the lake,I saw these clusters of office blocks -looking grand and powerful. MOROCCAN PAVILLION Lately,I noticed more buildings are coming up in Putrajaya-developed by government agencies and private sector. This is a point concern when it comes internal city transport.I hope the Perbadanan Putrajaya will get their planning right when the city population doubles to 200,000 in the  10 or 20 years time. From my observations, the majority of the buildings are just like any other buildings in big cities but some architectural features are quite unique.I will try to capture these hidden gems(as shown in The Moroccan Pavillion) and share their photos with the public.

B&W PORTRAITS

This is one of my favourite photos of Zuhayr Adib,my first grandson. My portrait shots previously were not good enough for me to like them and share with my friends. It was mainly due to the 50mm prime lens I borrowed from my friend Nazley. The outcome of using this prime lens on my Canon 400D really inspired and motivated me to shoot more portrait photos.Nazley allowed me to use the lens for more than one year until my Canon went kaput. To cut the long story short,I ended taking a lot of Zuhayr's photos and posted five series of his portraits at my Facebook. These exercises gave me confidence to take photos of other people-starting from relatives to friends and complete strangers. When it comes to strangers,I am very careful either I get their permissions or I take candidly. While we were on a Hop-On and hop Off bus around KL City, we met a lady visitor from the Philippines. She sat in front of me. With her permission, my photography friends turned her into a model s...

Walking alone..

If you believe  in what you are doing and no one is with you;then you have to walk alone..Don't be sad, just keep putting one step ahead at one time. You shall arrive at your destination.

Napkin

Properly arranged and put them in a good container at prominent location, even ordinary paper napkins can look great!!!

Going Japanese at The Retreat

Shooting reflection of reflection!

I took the photo of a tower block from a hotel room.It also showed my reflection. The objects captured by shooting only one object.

People at The Jetty

Jetty is designed for the boats. These jetties are located at Putrajaya Water Sport Centre.Events only take place once or twice a month. Most of the time, the people are there to enjoy the views, some bring in food for breakfast and picnic, some are just there to comtemplate and some are people like me who come here to enjoy the views and take photos.During weekends,I notice a lot of wedding photography taking place on the jetty as shown above. I took more than 10 photos on the jetty, near the jetty and away from the jetty. When I was on the jetty,I was too close to take photos of the people-I was inside the 'frame' of the photo I wish to take.So ,I moved away and took a shot from a distance of 50 metres. The photo I got was the view of the jetty, dotted with people on it.Then,I move closer-about 10 metres away from my subject to get this shot.In the original photo, there were many distractions that littered my composition. To get a photo that has  clean composition and tells a s...

Architectural Snapshots

Pullman Hotel is one of  my favourite buildings architecture to take photos in Putrajaya.I love to walk around and steal a few snapshots of people walking by the corridors and around the compound. It is a hotel I love to stay but not to manage.According to my friend who worked there, the cost per room is more than twice the usual 5-Star hotel. It is a struggle to make a profit.Anyway, that is none of business.I am just a photographer. Putrajaya has many interesting buildings and structures like bridges worthy of exploring and taking photos of their architectural beauty.I have taken photos of Masjid Putra,Masjid Sultan Mizan,PICC,Jambatan Seri Gemilang,Jambatan Putra and a few others. However,I am still not happy with what I got so far. Many of my architectural shots had failed to do justice to those beautiful structures-offices,houses and bridges.Only a handful of my shots are good.I need to shoot more times at different places with different views and perspectives. ...

The fun of capturing the beauty!

During our cycling around Putrajaya,I took my tribe to watch pelicans and black swans swimming by the lakes. It was great fun to see my friends taking selfie/ wefie  with the birds, not mention taking photos of their friends.. Personally,I love taking photos. It is the joys of capturing what I love to see and the moments of fun, joys and special circumtances that may happen once in my life time.It gives me greater joy if I can make friends happy by taking them to places they have not been there before and take photos. At times,I take them to familiar places and high lighting to them what they had missed during their previous visits. And what is more rewarding for me as their guide was to know that my riding friends enjoyed their ride, discover new interesting gems hidden in Putrajaya and had fun. On the way home,a few asked me when is the next ride and next photowalk. It made my day.All efforts paid in full.

AT LEICA SHOP

On my way to Suria KLCC last weekend,I took a detour and ended up at K Avenue. It must be donkeys years since I went loitering there. What a lovely suprise! Now,this shopping complex is alive again. As I walked,I noticed a familiar logo-something that exits only in my dream. The shop front was intimidating enough to a poor soul like me.I feel like a mere office clerk wanted to check in at Shangrila Hotel. There was a flight of stairs to the entrance of Leica Shop.I stopped and pa used at the first step-to go up and not being entertained or take my flight to mamak shop for teh tarik?Even though I am not qualified to buy the cheapest camera,I think the sale person won't chase an old gentleman away. After doing some rigorous Monte Carlo's scenario analysis,I gathered all my strength and walked up the stairs. On entering,I got a sweet smile from a young lady and was greeted well.Phew, what a great relief. We had great conversation about Leica Q.Read it at my ne...

Not her train

Waiting is lonely as time goes by.. In real time, there are many instances that we just have to wait.A woman may conceive a baby but she has to wait for nine months to see her baby born.At times, something may go wrong during the waiting. Some years,my cousin was engaged to a young man but he died before the marriage takes place. We hope and pray for the best.Have trust in Allah.. Below is a photo of a lady waiting for her train. All of us are in waiting, one way or the other for something. As a photographer,I was waiting for something interesting to happen so that I could capture the moment. So here is what I saw-the lady, the train and the steel roofs of LRT Station at PWTC.

SHOOTING THE CITY

I was born in the kampung Pondok Beris but during my formative years,I was growing up in a small town called Tanjung Malim for four years and later in Kuala Lumpur for another four years before I went to Sheffield University for three years degree course. On graduation,I worked in a small town of Pasir Mas, Kelantan for four years and later moved to a bigger town of Alor Setar. After two years in Kedah,I got myself back in KL. After living in KL for a quarter of a century,I decided to move to a suburb town called Bandar Baru Bangi where I now live with my wife and son. Looking back,20% of my life was in my kampung,40% I was away in the suburbs and 40% in the city including 3 years in UK.I was a kampung boy who by fate has become a city man and now enjoying a very urbane lifestyle.Whenever I am in KL,I feel that it is my own town but lately,I feel like a foreigner in my own country when I encounter too many of foreign workers flooding our cities and towns. Moving to Bang...
