SHOOTING RAW

When it  comes to ordering my sirloin steak,I go for well done. That was how I began eating steak when I joined the corporate world in mid-80s.Now,I go for medium rare.Taste goes with time and age..

I bought my first DSLR in December,2006.All the time,I was shooting in JPEG.When my photog friends asked me to shoot in RAW format,I told them that JPEG is too good already for novice photographer like me.One of the reasons was that I like my photo  as I see it in my viewfinder and remain natural ;with no make up from The Photoshop or Lightroom Studios.

This morning ,I went for a solo photowalk at my favourite
place in Putrajaya Wetland. When I arrived at the jetty,I heard a noisy commotion coming from the under the jetty. It was a sight to behold when I saw a few Egyptian ducks were chasing and fighting each other.Immediately,I took out my camera and began composing and shooting. After about 15 minutes and 30  shots,I realised my Fujifilm camera was set up to shoot in RAW format.A day before,my friend Amir was showing me how to shoot RAW and I forgot to reset to JPEG.By default and accident,I began for the first time in my life to shoot in RAW as shown above. It was converted to JPEG using the apps in my camera. Now,I am searching for a free online software to convert two dozens more of RAW files in my PC to JPEG.

I read that many professional photographers shoot in RAW  and then they do editing in Photoshop or Lightroom. Now,it is time for  me to explore the benefits,if any ,shooting in RAW for a hobbyist like me.

Before I forget about steaks,my favourites are Victoria Stations and Chilis. My next order will be Medium RAW.
