LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY RE-VISITED

Before I read Micheal Freeman's book on landscape, I thought landscape genre is easy stuff.Anyone with a camera can take a photo of scenery. I just make sure the lighting and composition are okay, my photos will be all right. Yes, they all right but only a few I managed to steal a  few good shots that I am now sharing in this blog.

Referring to the above,I have selected a beautiful subject and found a good location to shoot this photo during the early morning. These three items are mentioned in the MF's book.To me, these actions are strategic actions before any shooting takes place. Reflection in the water is a bonus. Its roles are to create balance with nice geometry.

In the above photo, I am using the colourful kayaks as points of interest in the foreground. The cloud patterns provided vertical balance.

Looking at this scenario in Holland,I just had to stop cycling and take a few shots. This is one of my best shots. All the major elements in landscape photography are all present-The sky, the clouds, the trees, the river, the road and the beautiful lady rider! Almost a complete package was given to me on a silver platter.I just need to find the best place to stand, face at the right angle, compose and shoot! Voila.

I took this photo for a nostalagic reason. It reminds me of my childhood days playing in the padi field. This photo is mainly about good composition and colour planes of the sky and the ripening padi fields.

I was stunned and mesmerized by the immense beauty of a field of the colourful tulip in layers of different vibrant colours.I took this photo with my jaws dropped a few inches!
The sky was sadly grey in April 2012.

On my way to Kg. Chad in Bachok, I saw kemunting fruits by the roadside.I stopped to pluck them as I did when I was a kid in Pondok Beris. Then I saw a vast green padi field with a single palm tree in the middle and a hill in the horizon. There are enough landscape elements to make my photo look great.

This is my beach since I was five years old.It was here that I had my first picnic with my family and swam in the sea.I was surprised to see the beach was full of hives of activities and the boats for rental were gay and colourful. How do I take this landscape photo?

The MF's Book on Landscape tells me what I did right and what I did wrong.Just go and read the book for one month, shoot for one year and you can be a better photographer than people like me who keeps shooting for five years and now try to read and learn from the master.

KB WALK

I planned to have four days of Photowalking around Kota Bharu #KBWalk ,but due to unplanned family errands which I love doing for my  mother and son,I only managed to have two days with only less than 4 hours.Herewith I shared two photos taken behind Pejabat PAS. To do justice to the town,I need at least 7 full days and nights to capture the history  and culture of the place. My first attempt had revealed a lot more for me to explore, discover and capture.Another missing dimension I need to have with me before I embark on KBWalk is the history of Kota Bharu. It has to be another time..May be after Eidil Fitri.

COMPARISON BETWEEN MY IPHONE 14 ProMax VS FUJIFILM XT20

No camera is suitable for every occasion. Here is a simple comparison. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, and I love both. When I go photowalking with friends, I use more smartphones than the Fujifilm XT20. FUJIFILM XT20 iPhone 14 Pro Max (Smartphone) vs Fujifilm X-T20 (Mirrorless) – Image Quality Breakdown IPHONE 14 PRO MAX 1. Sensor & Processing iPhone 14 Pro Max Uses a 48 MP quad-pixel sensor that down-samples to 12 MP by default; ProRAW unlocks full 48 MP output   . Features Apple’s “Photonic Engine” that enhances detail, color, and low-light performance via computational photography  . Produces excellent detail, color accuracy, and dynamic range—especially in daylight; however, images sometimes show over-sharpening on foliage/glossy textures  . DXOMARK cites strengths like vivid color, wide dynamic range, sharp detail, and low noise; potential drawbacks include clipping highlights and noise indoors  . Fujifilm X-T20 Features a...
