Photography started as a hobby in 2008 when I started cycling in Putrajaya. I bought a Lumix LX5 to capture my cycling activities. It became a serious hobby when I got Fujifilm XT1 on 12/3/2014. As they say, the rest is history.
Later, I got inspired when my photos were bought by advertising agencies and even Getty Images!
Why blog when you can share your photos on Instagram, Twitter, Threads and Facebook? My answer is quite simple. Blogging is telling a story about the photo. It includes all the why, what, how, when, where and who are engaged in the photo and making it.
Some people think and say: Let the photo tell the story. Really? How much the photo can talk about itself. Most of the story comes from the viewer. What the viewer sees is only the visual which is only 20% of what he SEES. The other 80% comes from his own cognition and interpretation based on his knowledge, sentiment and prejudice.
IMHO, whenever we share our photos via blogs it gives better and deeper meaning for the photographer and the reader. On social media, the engagement is very shallow and superficial.
Photography blogs play a significant role for various reasons:
1. Learning and Education: They provide tutorials, tips, and techniques for photographers of all skill levels, helping them improve their craft.
2 Inspiration: Photographers can find inspiration through showcased work and discovering new styles, ideas, and trends in the industry.
3. Community Building: Blogs foster a sense of community among photographers, offering a platform for discussion, feedback, and networking.
4. Portfolio Display: Photographers can use blogs to display their work, reach potential clients, and build a professional portfolio.
5. SEO and Marketing: Blogs help photographers improve their online presence, attracting more visitors through search engine optimization (SEO) and social media sharing.
6. Monetization: They can generate income through advertisements, affiliate marketing, sponsored content, and selling prints or services.
7. Documentation: Blogs serve as a personal or professional diary, documenting the photographer's journey, projects, and experiences.
Overall, photography blogs are a versatile tool for growth, engagement, and professional development in the photography community.
