TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY 2.0

Most of my so-called travel photography are just snapshots of the places I visited when I began travelling to faraway places beginning in 1987 to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary. Over the last 30 years, I visited more than a dozen foreign lands. Holland, England, Australia and KSA are countries I visited most. What I regret most is that I did not bother to take more photos.

As I understand it, travel photography is not limited to taking photos in foreign countries but also when we explore our own hometown. The photo above was taken in the Netherlands and the photo below was taken at Pantai Senok in the district of Bachok where I was born.

In May 2017,I joined my cycling friends to visit Holland and London. During the trip, I explored a few cities on two-wheels and took photos. We travelled by trains and we cycled around the nooks and corners of Leiden, Harlem, Gouda, Utrecht and The Hague. These travel photos were shared at my Facebook to curate my memories and inform/inspire others to travel to those nice places and enjoy the ambience.

A few years back, my cycling community had a cycling event in Tanjung Karang(photo below). I had a field day( the pun is intended) cycling around the paddy fields. It reminded me of my childhood in my own village where I cycled when I was ten years old. After cycling, we were served with nasi ambeng- a Javanese special cuisine. Now, nasi ambeng is sold at Pasar Tani in Serdang. I am now a regular customer!

In 2003, my dear friend Pak Wan Hulaimi took me to Paris via Eurostar. It was a great experience walking the streets of Paris but sadly I have less than 20 photos of Paris. At that time, I was using a point and shoot camera. How I wished I had my DSLR and knew how to take travel photos. To my friends reading this blog, please learn the basics of photography so that when we grow old, we can look again at those photos. Photography is a great medium to connect to our past that is slowly fading from our ageing memory.

My photo above was taken by Pak Wan Hulaimi as we walked on Champs d'Elysee in Paris. Below is my photo of the late George-owner of Shakespeare & Co Bookshop located on the bank of River Seine.

For a golfer, his dream is to play golf at St. Andrews. And for a cyclist like me, my dream is to cycle in Holland which came through in May 2017. Below are a few great shots taken by cycling buddies.

All of us take photos whenever we travel. It is good to put some efforts to learn and take better photos for our personal memories as well as for our later generations to see our lives when we are no more around to tell the stories.

KB WALK

I planned to have four days of Photowalking around Kota Bharu #KBWalk ,but due to unplanned family errands which I love doing for my  mother and son,I only managed to have two days with only less than 4 hours.Herewith I shared two photos taken behind Pejabat PAS. To do justice to the town,I need at least 7 full days and nights to capture the history  and culture of the place. My first attempt had revealed a lot more for me to explore, discover and capture.Another missing dimension I need to have with me before I embark on KBWalk is the history of Kota Bharu. It has to be another time..May be after Eidil Fitri.

COMPARISON BETWEEN MY IPHONE 14 ProMax VS FUJIFILM XT20

No camera is suitable for every occasion. Here is a simple comparison. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, and I love both. When I go photowalking with friends, I use more smartphones than the Fujifilm XT20. FUJIFILM XT20 iPhone 14 Pro Max (Smartphone) vs Fujifilm X-T20 (Mirrorless) – Image Quality Breakdown IPHONE 14 PRO MAX 1.
