Now,I see in B&W

When I see the patterns and the lines,my mind starts to visualize in black and white.Thankk God for it.It works that way because I was looking for an image and not looking for something just to snap away. Below is the B&W part of the photo above. FIRST THING IN PHOTOGRAPHY IS THE ART OF SEEING.

TRAINS AT THE STATION

One of my favourites is to shoot trains coming and arriving at the station.I love to see how the train enters the station and at the same time capture passengers' behaviours as they see the train is coming. Staying back for a few seconds gives me time to snap photos of people leaving and entering the coaches. When I ride on LRT,I prefer the front coach or the last back coach so that I could take photos.I capture some nice shots along the tracks as my train by passes another train. Every photographer has his own style and preferred way to make images of the trains and the passengers.Let me share some photos.Your comments and critics are most welcome so that I could keep improving taking photos of my pet subjects-the train and its station..

BRICKFIELDS REVISITED ON MALAYSIA DAY 16/09/2015

My first photowalk here was about a decade ago when I joined KL Flickr Group to walk and shoot photos. This is Little India of Kuala Lumpur. As a resident of KL then,my familiar and regular places were around Kampung Pandan and Keramat areas. Back then,Malays prefer to live in Malay majority areas,so were the Chinese and Indians. It was a great cultural suprise to see so many Indians and their rich culture.I love the colours, the food, the smells and the sounds-vibrant and lively. My interest in photography as a serious hobby began about five years ago when I began to join friends at photowalks and attended photo talks.Every time I go to KL Sentral nearby,I took time to walk to Brickfields and shoot some photos until I don't know what else I have not shot around that area. But still I go for STREET PHOTOGRAPHY.It is not about the place, but more about capturing the moments and the stories on the kaki lima, the road, the shops, the restaurants and the market place. ...

A reflection of photography as a hobby(1987-2011)

It is a long story beginning way back in 1987 but I will try to make it short. On my  10th wedding anniversary I bought Nikon F3 to record my first ever family holiday abroad with my wife. On returning home, I forgot my RM2,000 camera and the battery leaked and damaged the whole camera beyond economic repairs! I should have bought a disposable camera instead. Lesson learnt: Think big but begin small. During the '90s, I have a few compact cameras for my family photos, travels and projects photos. Just snapping around for pictorial records and memories. Photography was not a hobby yet. Period. Fast forward to 21st Dec,2006-it was a very historical day for me when at the age of 54, I only managed to buy myself a DSLR-Canon 400D. During my photo lesson and shooting at Putrajaya Wetland, I met a young chap, about 14 years and I saw a Canon 400D hanging from his neck. Lucky boy!!! Over the years, I met a few friends who shared the same hobby and I also joined...

Bridge PhotoStory

This collection of photos is not just  limited to the visual narrative of the bridge forms and functions, but it also reflects the ingenuity and creativity of my fellow architects and engineers in the applications of engineering theories and practice. As an engineer, I could see the harmony of co-existence of moments & forces, stress & strain in each structural member of each bridge. And not to mention great efforts are needed to construct these bridges. It takes 5 years to plan, design and construct a 300m bridge, but it only takes less than 3 minutes to drive across it. Building bridges is mainly about geotechnical and structural engineering. I have personal experience doing a 200-meter prestressed concrete balanced cantilever bridge on two 7-storey high piers. It was a tough job for my team and partners and we completed the job with no profit. The above bridge has no name. It is also a back entrance to the Prime Minister's Office. This is Taman Se...

Shadows

One of the reasons I like this location to shoot street photography is the presence of the shadows on the floor. The shadows form their own art of works depending on the time of the day and the sun brightness. When the shadows and the light fall on the people faces and their dresses, they look different and at time weird looking.Light is a very important element in the photo.Without the light,we see nothing. When no one is going down the escalator,I will wait patiently for the people to come up.As soon as they are arriving on my floor where I was standing,I just snap their photos so that they do not have enought time react.I was trying to get natural look on their faces as shown below. At times,I follow my subject all the way up or down the escalators. From this exercise,I learnt that planning ,hard work and patience are keys to successful shots.Good luck also plays its own card. Below are two shots when no one was around..

LINEAR GARDEN OF PUTRAJAYA

Let me tell you the obvious and yet few members of the public know about it.It is the concept of connected gardens dotted along the lakes that surround The Core Island of Putrajaya. Each garden has its theme with different trees, flowers, rocks and stones and pavement. These gardens are connected by the pedestrians and cycling track around the Core Island and its length is about 10km.It is known inside Putrajaya Corporation as Linear Garden. This is where I first began my cycling in Putrajaya since 2008 until today. The photo above is next to Taman Wawasan and Putra Bridge. It is my best place to cycle-great views, shaddy trees and colourful flowers in the pond running parallel with the lake.As far as I know, there is no better place to cycle with peace and safety in Malaysia. Along the route, one can see many interesting gardens and buildings and bridges. Here are a few photos:

At last, the photographers finally got shot!

Getting ready for the shot.. I shot all the photographers..
