The Quiet Beauty of Green Reflections
At Paya Indah Wetlands, the colour green seems to take on many different shades of life. Lotus leaves rise gently above the water, spreading across the surface like small floating umbrellas. Some stand tall and vibrant, while others bend slightly with age, reminding us that nature is always in a quiet cycle of growth and decay.
What caught my attention in this scene is not just the leaves themselves, but their reflections in the still water. The wetland becomes a mirror where the greens double in presence—above the water and beneath it. The reflections soften the shapes, turning the scene into something almost painterly.
In the foreground, fallen branches rest partly submerged in the water. Their tangled lines contrast with the calm rhythm of the lotus stems rising vertically from the water. Together, they create a natural composition of lines, shapes, and textures.
The greens of the lotus leaves glow in the sunlight, and their reflections ripple gently with the movement of the water. It is a quiet reminder of how wetlands hold a delicate balance between land and water, growth and stillness.
Moments like this are why I enjoy walking through wetlands with a camera. Sometimes the beauty of a place is not dramatic or loud. It lies in the simple harmony of green leaves, calm water, and reflections that double the serenity of the landscape.
