INTIMATE LANDSCAPE -Putrajaya Wetland

This photo captures the serene beauty and ecological richness of a wetland ecosystem, highlighting its essential role in supporting biodiversity and fostering environmental balance.

Visual and Ecological Elements:

  1. Pelicans at the Shoreline:
The group of pelicans resting and preening along the muddy, pebbled shore illustrates the wetland’s role as a critical habitat for waterbirds. Wetlands offer food, nesting areas, and safe resting grounds for migratory and resident bird species. The pelicans here are not just scenic subjects—they symbolize the health and productivity of this aquatic environment.
  2. Riparian Vegetation:
The presence of trees along the shoreline adds to the buffering function of the wetland. These trees help prevent erosion, filter runoff, and provide shelter for both terrestrial and aquatic life. Their roots stabilize the soil, while their canopy regulates temperature and light, contributing to a thriving microclimate.
  3. Calm Reflective Water:
The stillness of the water, reflecting both the bridge and the trees, highlights the natural filtration function of wetlands. Such calm waters allow sediment to settle and nutrients to be absorbed, which in turn supports aquatic life and purifies the water naturally.
  4. Bridge in the Background:
The human-made bridge juxtaposed with the untouched foreground speaks to the delicate balance between human development and nature. While the bridge indicates accessibility and progress, the undisturbed foreground emphasizes the need to preserve natural wetlands amidst urban expansion.
  5. Filtered Morning/Evening Light:
The golden light bathing the scene suggests dawn or dusk, times when wetlands come alive with activity. This light brings out the rich textures of the trees and the subtle movement of the birds, enhancing the sense of peace and natural rhythm unique to wetland areas.

Why This Image Matters:

This photo is more than just beautiful—it’s a quiet reminder of the ecological importance of wetlands. Wetlands like this one serve as carbon sinks, flood controllers, biodiversity hotspots, and water purifiers. The image encapsulates the interconnectedness of life—from the quiet pelicans and rustling trees to the reflecting waters and distant signs of human presence.

In essence, this is a visual hymn to the delicate, sustaining power of wetland ecosystems.

KB WALK

I planned to have four days of Photowalking around Kota Bharu #KBWalk ,but due to unplanned family errands which I love doing for my  mother and son,I only managed to have two days with only less than 4 hours.Herewith I shared two photos taken behind Pejabat PAS. To do justice to the town,I need at least 7 full days and nights to capture the history  and culture of the place. My first attempt had revealed a lot more for me to explore, discover and capture.Another missing dimension I need to have with me before I embark on KBWalk is the history of Kota Bharu. It has to be another time..May be after Eidil Fitri.
