MY PHOTOGRAPHY-Half Year Review 2020

Half of the Year 2020 has passed by. The above is the photo of my son supervising his 3 years old boy riding his new toy in Putrajaya. It was taken on the 4th of January 2020. Below is the landscape photo of Pusat Rekreasi Air in Presint 1 of Putrajaya. It was the meeting place for my photography tribe before they wandered into Putrajaya Wetlands. A dozen members of Putrajaya Photowalk Group attended the morning walk around the Putrajaya Central Wetland on 21/6/2020. The weather was perfect. Alhamdulilah!

In the last six months, I did not do any real photography for almost three months- March, April and May. Most of the time, I was stuck at home. With the relaxation of MCO Rules in June, I managed to organise two photo walks in June 2020. However, we had a few ONLINE PHOTO TALK sessions among us. During this session, we have members talking on certain topics as well as we share and talking about our photos-sharing knowledge, skills and experience for the group and personal benefits.

Owing to COVID-19 MCO, my social movements and travels are very limited. However, I managed to capture more landscape and nature photos when I went out cycling. What I missed are the urban photography and occasional street shots.

Last month, I managed to upgrade my mobile photography gear from Samsung Galaxy Note5 to Note10Lite. It is much better than my old 5 years old. However, I must give credit to my Note5 which has helped me a lot to shoot great photos! At times, it was much better than my Fujifilm X-T1. My X-T1 is ageing suddenly with bodily defects due to wear and tear. It is six years old. To upgrade to X-T3 is beyond my affordability, so I am looking for a high-end compact Lumix LX 100 to take over. It is lighter both on my shoulders and pocket. By the way, I am not leaving Fujifilm but I need a pause to earn and save some money. May be XT20 body is a good alternative?

Mobile Phone Photography is getting more popular every day. Nowadays, everyone can take photos any where and at any time. But not everyone is a photographer. To be a photographer one needs knowledge, skills and a reasonably good camera. Soon, mobile photography will become the main stream-even used by professional photographers and international photo journalists! A few years ago, I set up Mobile Photography Malaysia but it is not yet popular as compared to my Putrajaya Photowalk.  With my new Note10Lite, I plan to be more active in taking photos with my mobile phone.

Last week, I felt honoured and recognised when this photo below was selected and admitted to the Inspired Street Photography Gallery.

Yesterday, I discussed with my friends doing a Photo Project for a government agency. Hopefully, I can make a contribution to my country and at the same time get some money to buy a new camera!

COMPARISON BETWEEN MY IPHONE 14 ProMax VS FUJIFILM XT20

No camera is suitable for every occasion. Here is a simple comparison. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, and I love both. When I go photowalking with friends, I use more smartphones than the Fujifilm XT20. FUJIFILM XT20 iPhone 14 Pro Max (Smartphone) vs Fujifilm X-T20 (Mirrorless) – Image Quality Breakdown IPHONE 14 PRO MAX 1. Sensor & Processing iPhone 14 Pro Max Uses a 48 MP quad-pixel sensor that down-samples to 12 MP by default; ProRAW unlocks full 48 MP output   . Features Apple’s “Photonic Engine” that enhances detail, color, and low-light performance via computational photography  . Produces excellent detail, color accuracy, and dynamic range—especially in daylight; however, images sometimes show over-sharpening on foliage/glossy textures  . DXOMARK cites strengths like vivid color, wide dynamic range, sharp detail, and low noise; potential drawbacks include clipping highlights and noise indoors  . Fujifilm X-T20 Features a...

Let the photo speak first?

Should photographers explain their photos, or let the images speak for themselves? A strong photograph can stand on its own. It invites people to look, pause, and interpret the moment in their own way. But sometimes a few words from the photographer reveal the quiet story behind the frame — what was seen, felt, or noticed in that fleeting moment. Perhaps the balance is this: Let the photo speak first. Let the words gently reflect afterwards. 📷
